After Reading Les Misèrables 普一1 36號 趙云禔
In the 19th century France, there was a man named Jean Valjean, who spent 19 years in prison just because he stole a loaf of bread for his sister’s family. After he was released from jail, a bishop saved him twice. He was moved by the bishop’s kindness and generosity, and he decided to turn over a new leaf. Afterwards, he met Fantine, who used to work at his factory. He saved her from Inspector Javert after she was kicked out of the factory and faced lots of unfair treatments. Fantine had a daughter, Cosette. Valjean took care of her after her mother died. They lived happily together. But at the same time, Inspector Javert kept pursuing Jean Valjean like a shadow.
After reading this story, I’m truly touched by the bishop’s kindness and I admire him for having such a compassionate heart. He saved Valjean’s life by treating him to a big meal. Moreover, even after discovering he stole his precious silverware, he still defended him and gave him a chance to start a new life. I considered what the author wanted to say was to be a tolerant, kind and liberal man just like the bishop. After Jean Valjean made thorough reformation, he imitated the spirit of the bishop to help more poor people, spread this compassionate heart, and even influenced Inspector Javert, who had been very stubborn, excessively committed and kept chasing Valjean. It’s an important thought no matter what era we’re in right now. I really hope that there can be more people with this spirit in the world, make our lives better, and bring countless bright hopes and dreams to people especially who are desperate.
