After Reading Les Misérables       普一1   4   吳俊一

The writer of Les Misérables is Victor Marie Hugo, who is one of the greatest authors in France.

The story is about how the main character Jean Valjean struggles to live a decent life and does good deeds in God’s name during the French revolution in 1832.

He helps Fantine take care of Cosette, and gives Cosette a good life.

Although Javert tries to arrest him, he proves to Javert that he is a kind-hearted person by saving his life.

He also rescues Marius after the young man gets shot in the revolution war.

Les Misérables is a novel displaying all kinds of human nature: kindness, love, hatred, courage, and greed. I had a good time reading this page-turner.

Fantine and Cosette are just like other poor civilians at that time.

What’s worse, they are oppressed by the innkeeper Thenardier, who lives in an indifferent and greedy society.

However, because of Jean Valjean’s help, they have a better life.

I feel touched and moved when Jean Valjean promises to protect Cosette. Javert is another character that I feel sorry for.

He is a person who is loyal to law and sticks to his post, but he doesn’t know bad guys can have a good side.

As to Jean Valjean, although he has done some bad things in the beginning, he has done even more good deeds.

He is very humble and is a man of justice. Without a doubt, he is a true hero in my mind.
