After Reading Les Misérables       普1-1 3號    王建翔

The content of the story mainly describes the process of Jean Valjean trying to atone for his sins. The whole story revolves around the political situation, beliefs and the current social conditions at the time, and the content is really substantial. There are many famous sayings in the original, too. The one I like best is, “Before you die, bear the pain for love and admire for hope.”

After reading the novel, Les Misérables, I feel that the author, Victor Hugo, is undoubtedly so superior that he can integrate his idea into the social conditions and real effects of the time, and write such a thought-provoking novel. The author also used many different personalities of the characters and their behaviors and dialogues to satirize the people who did not know how to adapt in that era. For example, the inspector Javert, as a detective, abode by the law very much, even to the supremacy of the law. But he did not understand that besides the law, there were sentiment and reason. Even in daily life, the sentiment is the first one to be considered, too. Pitiful Javert, because of his obsession, committed suicide at the end of this story.
