After Reading Les Misérables  普一2 23號   邱千甄

On a cold evening in October of 1815, Jean Valjean was thrown out by an innkeeper because at that period people like Jean Valjean were hated by many. Because he was released from prison, without a job or money, he went to the church and begged for some food and water from a bishop. Fortunately, he met a nice bishop who gave him some water and food and even a warm bed to lie on. In the end, the kind old man even gave him lots of silver products and defended him when he were caught stealing by the police. With these wealth, he then founded a factory and then became a mayor. During his rule of the city, he often helped people who were struggling for life. He also rescued a woman whose name was Fantine working in his factory. Unfortunately, when his former conductor, Javert, knew his true identity, he launched a strong hunt. At this time, Fantine was dying and in order to show sympathy for her, Valjean promised to bring up her dear daughter—Cosette. During his escape, he stayed at the church with Cosette. After a few years, Cosette fell in love with a young man Marius. When the French revolution broke out, Marius was shot, and injured badly . Jean Valjean carried him for treatment. When Marius recovered, he knew that Jean Valjean had saved him, so he went to him with Cosette. Sadly, Jean Valjean died in front of

them with a smile on his face.

Reading this novel, I saw the horror of war, evils of politics and even the consciousness of the people. Among these roles, I am most sympatheic to Jean Valjean, because I think he did not despise others because of his noble status, and even helped the poor who lived in slums. I think this kind of spirit is worthy of our respect, and it also allows me to see the glorious side of humanity in the French Revolution. To be honest, I can hardly imagine the plight of people at that time. However, this novel also allows me to understand that if I have the ability, I should help more, because I never know on which day I will need help from

others.
