This novel is full of tragic stories about Jean Valjean,  Inspector Javert, Marius, Fantine and others. The protagonist Jean Valjean was very poor. He violated his conscience and stole bread for his sister’s hungry children. On a cold night, he met a good bishop. He provided Jean Valjean with a bed and some food. He saved him by giving him valuable silverware. Nine years later, he became the mayor and helped many people along the way. One day he saw that Fantine, who was a staff member of his factory, was bullied and she still had a daughter to raise. She couldnt get a decent job. Jean Valjean immediately sent her to the hospital and promised her to help her raise her daughter Cosette until she grew up. When Javert, detective, knew the mayor was Jean Valjean, he took a very poor attitude towards him from then on. One day Jean Valjean took Cosette to a poor village. Cosette and Marius fell in love at first sight. But Marius was preparing to start a revolution with his friends. On the day of the revolution, Marius was the only one who survived. He was saved by Jean Valjean. But Jean Valjean died peacefully in the end. Javert felt like he had a terrible life, so he committed suicide at last.

I think Jean Valjean is actually a very kind person. He often helps others, but many people still dont believe that he has reformed. For example, Javert believes that people who make mistakes will never get better. But in my view, it is just the opposite. I have always believed that as long as we turn over a new leaf, we can do it better!
